innocence of butterflies

"...In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" - Genesis 2:9.

A story on the loss of innocence...
Butterflies pinned gently to display cases for collections are not "rescued" from the ground, picked up gently to avoid crushing and stomping after death overcomes their life . Instead, the most beautiful butterflies are hunted and killed.. possibly bred for a sole purpose of stretching out and joining the lifeless, delicate forms on boards. The justification is gaining knowledge.  More pointedly, people seek to capture the innocence and beauty in these blissful creatures, but instead destroy life.

Lighting another Malboro with hands shaking and feet bouncing in rhythm, a new weight enters the warm, yet tortured voice.  The man describes the similarities between butterflies and children,  with ever so slight pauses and stumbles heavy with emotion...

"...you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die” - Genesis 2:16,17

The age old tale of Adam and Eve shows a loss of innocence (akin to butterflies... children...), with similar consequences of death.  Unfortunately for the butterflies, there's little chance at gaining life once again, despite their amazing transformative powers. They will remain, still and quiet with their beauty frozen and captured.

Thankfully, it seems that children have a different path to access.  Moved from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were given freedom to exercise their newfound "wisdom" within the bounds of flesh's mortal body.  And, whether or not their descendants enter the world with sinful nature, at some point in life, innocence will be taken away.

But, there is hope. Grace abounds (see Romans 5).
